One That Got Away!

One That Got Away!

It`s very interesting to read that a certain Guiseppe Rossi is set to feature in a huge move.

Rossi, who couldn`t make that vital impact at Old Trafford and never really broke out of the reserve team, is set to join Barcelona (that name again) in a huge £40 million deal form Villareal.

Looks like he was definitely one that got away!

That's football for you. If he'd stayed at OT you never know, he might have made the breakthrough, or the lack of playing time might have hindered his development. It's always a gamble getting rid of young players, as sometimes it comes back to bite you on your rse. Take the case of Piquet - he looks a great defender for Barca, and seems to have taken to the Spanish league with ease - but would he have been the same player had he stayed in the Premier League? it must be a nightmare for any manager having to make the decision whether to stick or twist with a young player, but even as biased as I am against your club, I don't think you can apportion any blame to Fergusson over Piquet or Rossi - it's the sort of thing that can happen to any manager of any club. bet you wish you had a hefty buy on clause though! ;)

Funny how all our flops seem to go onto to fulfill their potential. Perhaps a statement of how tough the Premier League is. Forlan, Pique, Rossi, how nice would it be to have them now? To be perfectly honest i'm more gutted by the fact that we missed out on bids for Bale and Ramsey, they address the issues currently surrounding our squad, can't help but feel quite smug about their career choices though :P

What, like Djemba Djemba, Jordi Cruyff, Phil Bardsley, Veron, Ben Foster, etc. etc.? ;P

He was a good player here and he's a better player now but 40 million oh no wait Berbatov cost 30 so 40 million seems right. tbh I'm still *****ed we let Forlan go he's ******** quality.

Forlan did turn out all right didn't he? But I bet there weren't many united fans that were lamenting getting rid of him after his dismal showings in a red shirt! Some players just cannot cut it in the premier League, Forlan was one of them. Oh and Famous, tevez was never officially yours.

Don't deny him being a flop whilst at United then?

I do deny he was a flop at united. Here are some of the things he won prior to coming to England: Copa Libertadores Most Valuable Player: 2003 Silver Olimpia (Argentine Footballer of the Year): 2003, 2004 Golden Olimpia (Argentine Sportsperson of the Year): 2004 Olympic Golden Boot: 2004 CBF Campeonato Brasileiro Best Player: 2005 Placar Bola de Ouro: 2005 South American Footballer of the Year: 2003, 2004, 2005 We all know tevez was a great player prior to going to you, and he's shown it after he left you to. Unfortunately for united, ferguson is an incredibly stubborn old man and always refused to allow tevez the free reign his talents demand, instead trying to shoe-horn him into a system that did not suit his style of play. Once he was let off the leash he became absolutely lethal. Don't blame Tevez for failing to truly shine at united, blame your manager. I'd even go so far to suggest that Dimitar berbatov is experiencing the same problem and will go on to reestablish himself as a world class player once he's left united - because at the moment he looks anything but!

Your argument for Tevez could be used in Veron's defence as he had many trophies and personal accolades before joining ourselves yet you deem him a flop but not Tevez. As for Berby, this season he has really stepped up and despite being a bench player for half the season still matched Tevez on goals. He still might not look world class but to say he looks anything but is an overexaggeration and harsh on the man.
