'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Year of the Under-Dog?

It`s not often that Manchester united are rated as under-dogs going into a game.

Normally our status means that we`re the Goliath tempting fate from a David looking for a scalp.

Saturday evening is different though. Whilst United are recognized as the best team in England, our opponents are touted as being in a class of their own when on form.

Being the under-dog though can have its benefits. Neutral supporters just love to see the under-dog triumph, even if it is us.

Patrice Evra, certain to be playing at left-back on Saturday evening, has memories of the last time the two sides clashed in a Champions League Final.

Evra recalls that United were expected to brush aside Barcelona on that occasion but that, unfortunately, didn`t prove to be the case, prompting Evra to remark ahead of the final on Saturday,

"Two years ago everyone was saying we were going to beat Barcelona easily in Rome, me too."

"That`s why I am happy everyone is saying Barcelona are going to win this time. That`s good. They play some of the nicest football in the world but if we play our game we will be fine."

Could Saturday be the night of the underdog?

Generally the underdog always has the neutrals support some how I cannot see that being the case for us.

Nope, can't shrug off the hate parade to save our lives i'm afraid. That said Barca are hardly the most liked team on the planet, only to the blinkered few who believe everything they're told.

At the moment it feels like a repeat of Rome 2009. Fletcher looking unlikely to play and Barcelona bigging us up to the media and us ourselves bigging us up to the media. We're putting to much pressure on ourselves whilst Barca are relieving it all.
