No Shirt Number?

Nothing official has been announced yet and we still don`t know whether Paul Scholes will be pulling on his boots for Manchester United next season.

The word from the training camp is that Scholes is reluctant to sign on for another season if he`s not going to be participating on a regular basis.

Therefore, with no confirmation regarding his future coming out of Old Trafford, can we assume that Paul Scholes is heading towards retirement after learning, from one source, that he hasn`t been allocated a shirt number for next season?

Hardly reassuring is it? I will be shocked if he does a U-turn and signs for another season and it might be better for the club for him to go now whilst the Financial Fairplay doesn't impose on us spending on a replacement.

Surely he has to be given a coaching role if he retires.

It would be great Kanchelskis but Scholes is hardly the most vocal of people. Unless he has finally found his voice.
