'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Neville`s Testimonial

Old Trafford said cheerio to Gary Neville last night.

Neville, a wonderful servant to the club, was given as he emerged from the tunnel, accompanied by his two children, to be given a guard of honour by both teams.

As promised, David Beckham was participating as was a certain Ryan Giggs.

In front of a 42,000 crowd, it was United that took the lead courtesy of a Rooney goal, with the striker converting a cross from Giggs.

Juventus bounced back though and equalised through Pepe, after 40 minutes, snatching a winner, through Giandanto after 77 minutes.

But, on a night like this, it was never going to be about the result, it was always about paying homage to a man who had dedicated his professional career to Manchester United, with Gary remarking afterwards,

"I`m so proud. It`s been a great week for the club and I hope we can finish it off with a win on Saturday."

"The fans have so much to contend with. They were here on Sunday, they`re here tonight and they`ll be at Wembley on Saturday too. They are always so loyal."

So it`s farewell and thanks.
