Hargreaves Not Given New Contract

Hargreaves Not Given New Contract

Just before the final Premier League fixture of the season got underway and some two hours before the celebrations to mark that record breaking 19th top flight title win began, some sad news broke.

It was announced, by the club, that Owen Hargreaves would not be offered a new contract and will be free to leave this summer.

The £17 million midfielder, signed form Bayern Munich some four years ago, has been severely troubled with injuries in recent times and has made only 39 appearances since joining us.

Speaking about the situation, Sir Alex Ferguson had a few words,

"This has been a difficult decision because the lad has worked so hard."

At thirty years old, it`ll be interesting to see if Owen can get a new deal elsewhere and if he can, finally, shake off those lingering injury problems.

Personally think this is a bad move by the club. Should've offered him a pay as you play contract with reduced wages. His original injury, the far more serious one that ruled him out for 2 years was the tendonitis in his knees. He's now over that and his most recent injuries have been nothing more than unfortunate, a thigh strain and damaged shoulder are 2 seperate issues from the original tendonitis.
