'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rooney Wants to Play!

Blackpool, this Sunday, is one of those strange games.

For Manchester United there is nothing at stake, but for Blackpool everything is at stake.

Sir Alex Ferguson is in a position whereby he`s simply looking ahead to the titanic tussle, at Wembley, next Saturday against Barcelona.

With more than an eye on Wembley, Sir Alex has already intimated that several of his natural starting eleven will not be selected on Sunday.

Now whether one of those includes Wayne Rooney, although we suspect it will, or not remains to be seen.

But Wayne, as keen as ever, wants to play and has said so in the build up to the match, commenting in the media,

"It`s down to the manager to pick what team he wants to play in the two matches."

"But I`m sure all the players want to play. You play football to play in these games and I hope I can play on Sunday."

"You want to keep ticking over."

Unfortunately, in Wayne`s case, I`d say the prospect of picking up an injury makes playing him far from being the right decision!

If common sense prevails, first team players who are expected to be involved against Barcelona won't be played. Berby and Owen up top, let Berby have a go at getting the golden boot and Owen have one final game before he departs for mid-table side, oh and pick up his 1st Premier League title.
