Barcelona 2009 - More Thoughts!

Barcelona 2009 - More Thoughts!

Not sure whether it`s all about revenge or simply a desire to make sure something similar doesn`t happen again!

But that Champions League Final defeat to Barcelona, back in 2009, still rankles with several of the team that didn`t do themselves justice that night.

Rio Ferdinand is one who has continually stepped forward to offer comments on that night and his latest comments make for interesting reading with Rio now blaming the fact that, unlike this year, there was a long break between the end of the season and the Champions League Final, commenting,

"Last time we had two weeks to prepare for the final and we kind of rested beforehand. But sometimes if you rest too much, you can become a little lackadaisical. We don`t want that."

"When you are used to playing, then you will find yourself doing nothing, your body doesn`t react as well as it would if you go into a game straight on the back of another."

"Now we have a great opportunity to give a better account of ourselves."

Unless, off course, Sir Alex Ferguson decides to rest key individuals in the match against Blackpool this weekend, in which case some player swill have had - a two week break!

Poor excuse. On the night, we sorely missed Fletcher's industry and defensive game and we saw a Ronaldo tryout for Madrid which cost us big time. The lerthargic display had nothing to do with having a break (if so why are we asking for a winter break?!) but almost an expectation that simply turning up would be enough, that fielding the shirts alone without performing would automatically grant us the Champions League. There was some serious reality checks that night.
