United - Van der Sar Advice

United - Van der Sar Advice

There`ll not be too many more times that Edwin Van der Sar will gather his thoughts, pick up his essentials and run out with a United side.

As his retirement draws ever closer, many have suggested that Edwin should reconsider his stance and give it another year or so, a thought Sir Alex Ferguson doesn`t concur with when he remarks,

"If I was giving advice to Edwin now I would say 'retire` because he is at the absolute pinnacle of his career."

"All of a sudden age comes on you very, very suddenly and I wouldn`t want to see Edwin in that situation."

"He deserves to go out at the very top because his career has been fantastic, in the way he has conducted himself as a professional and a human being. He is absolutely gold standard. There is absolutely no reason he should risk another year and drop below his standard."

Playing devils advocate, switch it around and I wonder what Edwin would say to Sir Alex in similar circumstances?

Fergie's not wrong, I remember when Neville began costing us games and how us fans began to turn our backs on him saying he should quit before he's forced out. There's a huge risk of that happening with Van Der Sar.
