United - Lightning Strikes Twice?

Surely lightning can`t strike twice, can it?

It`s weird that as we approach the season end we`re in a situation whereby our European fate and our domestic ambitions are, once again, set to be decided over the space of a few days.

This time last year we were contemplating a Champions League Final and also a record 19th top-flight title only for it to go pear-shaped in dramatic fashion.

The fact that, just like last year, it`s a German side we face in Europe and Chelsea are our main domestic rivals, makes it even scarier.

Sir Alex Ferguson, speaking on the eve of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final has commented on the situation and warned about the dangers of being complacent, commenting,

"If you look at he experience of last year when we lost the league after a Wednesday game against Bayern, that has to have a bearing on team selection. They are both massive games, both as important as ever. There will be some changes but hopefully the nucleus of the team is still good enough to win us the match."

"It`s exactly the same situation as last year so we don`t share the optimism of the supporters."

"It`s easy to get complacent in modern life - there are many examples of it. I hope Manchester United don`t get complacent against Schalke."

Will lightning strike twice? Let`s hope not!

Come the end of the season I don't want to be thinking 'what if' and 'if only', lets leave that to our opposition. The team tonight shouldn't represent Fergie's grafting, big game 11.
