United - Ferguson Praises Performance

Last night, in Gelsenkirchen, Manchester United produced one of those displays you can only dream about when it comes to ensuring the goods are produced at exactly the right stage of a competition.

If anything, the 2-0 score-line flatters Schlake who, but for their superb keeper, could well have been turned over by five or six goals.

Schalke now travel to Old Trafford, next Wednesday, knowing they don`t have a mountain to climb to get through they have something akin to Everest to conquer.

After the game, a buoyant Sir Alex Ferguson was quick to praise those who had served him so well, remarking to the assembled media,

"The concentration and intensity of our play and the speed of passing was outstanding."

"It was a top performance. Credit to the players and their belief in each other."

"We have had some fantastic performances - Juventus will always be high on the list."

"I think it`s certainly one of the best, yes."

"The concentration was so important away from home. It requires experience and concentration in terms of keeping the ball."

"We`ve found a way to play like this away from home in recent years."

"I think we are coming to a peak."

We certainly are and any talk of the title race going to the wire should soon be dispelled.

Treat every game like it's your last, and that everyone of those games is a cup final and we should see a good close to the season. As for great European game, our 4-3 win over Real (loss on aggregate) was mesmerising.

Spurs fan here. Where is all you support! They at Old Trafford already, where are all the comments? Anyway, firstly congrats on a dominating performance in the 1st leg. Secondly, I believe your support from the neutrals has just doubled since watching the 22 Spanish girls play. England to dominate at wembley and you are now my England. C'mon Man U, sort these *****s out, you now have my full support!
