Ferguson Wants More!

Manchester United may rank up there as the most famous football club in the world and with a fan-base second to none, but you get the impression that Sir Alex Ferguson, before he finally retires, wants so much more.

Ahead of our game with Schalke, you get the impression that Sir Alex is slightly envious of some of the other clubs in Europe, clubs who may not match up to us in most ways; but exceed us in one, winning the Champions League.

Here`s what Sir Alex had to say to the media on the subject matter,

"My expectation has always been high in regards to the European scene but we get envious of the records of other clubs."

"We look at other teams` records and are trying to get parity. Clubs like Real Madrid, AC Milan, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Liverpool (choke). We really need to progress quickly to that level."

With Schalke currently barring our way to reaching another final and a possible chance to increase our tally of wins, Sir Alex has recalled a few previous semi-finals and the emotions they evoke, explaining,

"Any semi-final you know it`s going to be difficult."

"I think you always get apprehensive at this stage."

"We`ve had that over the years. When we played the semi-finals against Juventus there was apprehension at home and we released that for the second leg."

"It was the same against Barcelona in 2008. We got the result we wanted over there but in the second leg the last few minutes were agony."

"So you go through this gamut of emotions in semi-finals as they`re never easy."

"It will be the same this time."

So, according to previous experiences we can expect a nut-wrenching, sticky palm sort of tie!

Not sure whether you are strong enough to win over the two legs , but lets assume you do - I dont think you are going to beat Barcelona, and I would only rate you less than 50/50 to beat Mourinho and Ronaldo (How Ironic) and Real Madrid. So enjoy the semis , and maybe the final. You wont win it... END OF

Alot of teams and fans write us off it and always at their own dismay. I don't deny that we don't have the quality to beat Barcelona or Real Madrid over 2 legs but over 1 leg anything is possible. Also, whilst this may not be our strongest squad it still is a very good side. The man between the sticks is brilliant, defensively we're solid, width-wise we're blessed with plenty of talent and also have an abundance of talent and variety up front. The only area which I consider average is our midfield which is in dire need of an AM and DM. This is perhaps the best team we've got for unity and togetherness, the side know how to win and grind out results, there is no over reliance or anything of the sort, it truly is a team effort with this squad.

I fely for a long time it was the CL that was driving Fergie on rather than the PL. I think he feels that with some of the great sides we've had over the years we should've won a lot more European awards. However, an influx of Champions Leagues over the next 2-3 years is just impossible, not because of our squads ability but the strength of other squads, namely Madrid (with Mourinho anyway) and Barca.

if you get through the final will be a game too far -sorry!
