United - Berbatov`s Cloudy Future?

A strange situation could be developing!

Brought to our attention by the tabloid press, we could be about to witness a situation whereby the current top-scorer in the Premier League and a player who made the Professional Footballer`s Association starting XI, Dimitar Berbatov, may be deemed as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Apparently Berbatov`s contract contains a clause whereby the club can automatically extend it by twelve months. In recent weeks the Bulgarian has become frustrated at becoming something akin to a bit-part player with Sir Alex Ferguson opting to use Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez.

Dimitar, on the back of that explosive first half to the season may well have been expecting to be rewarded with a longer deal as a reward. But, as previously explained, his place in the starting eleven is no longer guaranteed.

The situation gets further complicated in the summer when United welcome back Macheda and Welbeck from their loan spells. Clearly, Sir Alex will have an abundance of talent at his disposal and any tetchiness about not starting on a regular basis, any more, could well see the Bulgarian and United parting company.

Any thoughts on the matter?

No, not yet. Give him a 3 year extension and see how he gets on. We can't get rid of him after finally seeing his best form. The extension will allow us to pick up a good price when we do decide to part ways with him and with the abundance of talent up-front he will need to maintain good form throughout the season, despite dropping in and out of the team, to stay at the club (so relatively soon then :P).
