United - That Man Giggs

It used to be whispered that ageing striker soften fell back into defence to become centre-backs.

Quite where the evidence is to support that remains questionable.

But, Ryan Giggs, having spent most of his career playing out wide, has shown, in recent fixtures, that he has the ability to operate anywhere in the midfield.

Two exquisite performances have been the basis of United reaching the last four of the Champions League and thereby knocking out one of our main rivals, Chelsea, in the process.

Having made the winning goal for Wayne Rooney, at Stamford Bridge a week ago, last nigh Ryan contrived to pull out of his locker two sublime assists that saw Hernandez and then Park put the tie out of Chelsea`s reach.

After the game, a happy Sir Alex Ferguson, in the post-match press conference paid tribute to the ageing star, remarking,

"It`s been said so many times about the man, he`s incredible, a unique person and player."

"His contribution is big because of the goal in the first game, and the part he played in the goals in this game."

"He`s lucky in the sense that he`s got the physique - he`s never carried any weight - and he`s got fantastic balance. That`s always been his asset. And he looks after himself."

"To play at 37 requires tremendous sacrifice. His experience and composure were vital. But the whole team deserves great credit."

It just makes you ponder over how long Gigs can stay at this level, one more year or possibly two?
