United - Belgian Targeted

United - Belgian Targeted

Our recent defensive situation whereby we were a little concerned about our central defensive situation has resulted in a whole host of rumours relating to bolstering the middle of our defence.

Despite acquiring Chris Smalling last summer and having Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic as our first choice pairing and with Jonny Evans, John O`Shea and Wes Brown more than capable of providing back-up, it`s being reported that Sir Alex Ferguson is looking towards Holland to further bolster his defence.

The player in question is the Belgian Jan Vertonghen. Aged twenty-three, the Ajax defender is, reputedly, being tracked by both United and Arsenal. That fact, and that fact alone, would seem to indicate that the lad has ability.

Whether anything actually comes of the rumour remains to be seen though!

Funnily enough the players both ourselves and Arsenal track always tend to be real gems e.g. Ronaldo, Rafael & Fabio, Smalling, Ramsey. Could be a lot of truth in this one, with the recurring injuries to the defense a solid reliable CB wouldn't go a miss. Shouldn't demand stupid amounts either ... hopefully.
