United - Redknapp`s Sour Grapes

Down in London something strange is stirring!

Whilst Chelsea launch a late offensive to claw their way back into the Premier League title fight, the boss of Tottenham Hotspur is only to keen to offer his views on the title race.

Having watched his club surrender two points to relegation threatened West Ham United, incidentally our next port of call, Harry Redknapp, in discussing the title race, came up with this little gem,

"This is as poor as United have played in years, but they keep stumbling along and nicking results when they should have got done."

It may well be the case but is it our fault that nobody in the chasing pack, not even a Tottenham side that blow very hot and cold, can overtake us? I think not!

I think that is the point that Harry is making - that it hasn't been a vintage season for United, but they keep on finding a way to win games they haven't particularly played well in. This is in stark contrast to Spurs who find a way to drop points even when they play well. I don't think this was a dig as such against United - I think you need to be a bit less defensive - you're top of the league and still in Europe and the Cup !

As Jolmember says, you seem to be castigating Redknapp, and then 'discovering' the point he was making in the first place. I know United fans who would agree (wholeheartedly - given you will almost certainly win the title) with Redknapp's analysis.

I don't think it is sour grapes but just honesty from Redknapp. The current Utd team is not in the same league as the Ronaldo, Rooney, Teves team of a couple of years ago - they are top because of their winning mentality and because the standard of the other top teams is much poorer than it has been for years. If United win the league - and I hope they do - then they will deserve to and will have prioved themselves the best team in the country, as for Spurs until they sign a top class striker they will continue to flatter to decieve.

Too sensitive! I'm sure you've suffered much worse insults and will probably continue to do so!

Rent Boy - Arry is spot on, this isnt a vintage Utd side - its only two ex-spurs players in Berba and Carrick keeping you up there - haha

Despise the man being honest, overrated and get's credited for a lot more than he deserves. However, in this case I'm not going to say he's wrong and in all fairness to the man he got asked the question, he wasn't speaking out or anything. Our football has been far from good let alone brilliant and at time's we should've lost alternatively however there we're equally as many games where we should've won. Harry is in no position to talk though, long punt up to Crouch, nod down to VDV and hope for the best is hardly attractive attacking football, is it? Better yet let's watch Bale try and take on 3 players and fail in doing so or we could watch Lennon run all the way up the wing to watch his cross go flying off the pitch for a corner or throw-in. No position to talk Harry, not at all. No doubt he will go on to say Rooney is a "poor" player yet refer to Crouch as "top quality". Nice one.

Crouch top assister for Tottenham, VDV top goalscorer. Bale 1 assist, Lennon 2 assists. No, you're right, i'm well off.

Redknapp is VERY STUPID for making those comments. What kind of manager makes such a statement about another team? This is very disrespectful to SAF; incredibly! Even Wenger won't stoop that low if questioned about the Spuds!

As a United fan I'd say ' Arry is spot on!!! He was just asked a question. We've been very very average all season and our away form is eveidence of that! We are still top,but with injuries and from I have my doubts we can go all the way especially with our run in!!! I feel we'll get pipped but i also hope i'm eating my words in a few weeks!!!

This Utd team is an ageing team and poor quality compared to past Utd teams and only the blind would say otherwise. I don't think Harry has any place making such comments in public about another team, but the fact is he is right! No.7 you clearly don't watch Spurs, as if you did you would know we are one of the most exciting teams to watch across the whole of Europe and the Crouch/VDV tactic you refer to is just one part of our armoury. You conveniently fail to mention Modric (our best player this season), a player who SAF has spent the last 18 months trying to buy.

I didn't mention Modric because he was of the few Spud players who I believe are genuine talents, not that Bale and VDV aren't, it's just they've left some Spuds star struck and therefore they overexaggerate their ability e.g. Harry Redknapp saying Bale is PL player of the season, Spud fans saying he's in the 60-80 mil bracket (Ronaldo/Kaka price - yeah right). As for football, I wouldn't say you're 'exciting', frustrating is more along the lines. Also, to consider yourselves as one of the most exciting teams in Europe after just 1 season in the CL is ridiculous.

Paul - Ageing? Why because of the four or five players we have above the age of 30? If this ageing, poor squad is topping the league, imagine if we freshen the squad in the summer.....beware!

TheFamousNo7, who cares what ou think. Every pundit across europe agree that we have been a fresh air in europe. We have got the highest number of goals in CL this season. Excpet for Milan home game, all the home game we scored consistently 3 goals. I would just call yours as sour grapes. You park the bus against Rangers and get a draw and you ad the lowest goals in CL group stage. The only problem for spurs is impotent front line. If we had our strikers on form or better strikers upfront, in a avergae season like this, we coud ve given you a good run.

No.7 I didn't day that we are one of the most exciting teams in the CL, I actually said across Europe, as if you watch European football you'd know that we are one of the few teams in Europe that play with 2 * wingers, no natural holding midfielder, bags of pace and an inconsistent defense. These are all attributes that make us so exciting to watch, not only to Spurs fans, but many nuetrals. But as you brought it up we've also been playing the type of football in the CL that your lot USED to be praised for.
