The Rooney and Hernandez Combination

Has Sir Alex stumbled across a winning combination?

Many might have been a little surprised that our leading scorer, Dimitar Berbatov, was sat on the bench last night.

But, Sir Alex Ferguson`s decision was vindicated by the fact that it was the young Mexican who put us through to the last eight with two close range strikes, something that appears to come natural to the youngster.

Using Hernandez as the main striker has allowed Wayne Rooney to drop into the hole behind him and the role looks to suit Wayne down to the ground with the player having a lot more of the ball and showing his creative side.

After the game, Rooney who many feel was the obvious choice for man-of-the-match, had a few words to say on the subject, commenting,

"He`s got great movement so I`m playing the position that I did when I started playing professionally."

"I`m enjoying it and thankfully he`s a finisher."

"It`s not often forwards get the chance to be on the ball and enjoy playing. I enjoyed tonight."

Continuing on the theme, Sir Alex Ferguson also had a few words to say about the duo in the aftermath of our victory, remarking,

"Where Wayne has been playing in the last couple of games he is a real threat and enjoying the freedom."

"He has such power and speed and Hernandez is unbelievable with his movement - the boy has goals in him."

Will it be a ploy that Sir Alex will persist with, I guess only time will tell!

Rooney linked incredibly well with Tevez as well and whilst Tevez was good for us he was pretty much the same player as Rooney and was on and off with his finishing. With Hernandez I think we've got that same partnership Rooney had with Tevez but with alot more goals, unfortunately for Berbatov.
