Sir Alex on His Team Selection

Sir Alex on His Team Selection

Speaking just before the kick-off, against Marseille, Sir Alex Ferguson explained his decision not to start with Valencia whilst also touching on the Vidic situation, remarking,

'We tried to get Nemanja Vidic fit but calf injuries are always a problem. If we played him from the start he could have been out for a few weeks and we couldn't take the risk. John O'Shea is right-back for his height because Marseille are a big, big side. Nani is back after an amazing recovery so we are very pleased with that. If we started with Antonio Valencia it might have been a risk with just half a game under his belt and the potential of having to play two hours of football with extra-time.'

Method behind the madness, we`re only joking Sir Alex!

It was a well thought out team in my opinion. The squad against Arsenal was madder but look how that one turned out. Personally I thought it should've been a much more vocal and demanding O'Shea playing CB rather than the passive, quiet Brown. Perhaps Brown at RB but still I would've opted for Rafael over him.
