United - The Big No Show!

Okay the performance wasn`t what we wanted and the result definitely wasn`t but the match has also left an unpleasant taste in my mouth.

Okay, I know Sir Alex Ferguson is treading a tightrope when it comes to being hit with a ban, following his comments about Martin Atkinson`s woeful performance at Stamford Bridge, but surely someone could have faced up to the cameras yesterday and had a few words.

Okay, so we lost, okay spirits were low but if Sir Alex wanted to stay silent, why couldn`t Mike Phelan step forward to face the media?

Yesterday also saw Ryan Giggs finally break Sir Bobby Charlton`s record number of league appearances, in a United shirt, but once again we heard nothing from somebody who has always appeared courteous in front of the cameras.

I`m sorry, it pains me to say this but yesterday, following the defeat, we displayed the sort of behaviour spoilt brats and cry-babies demonstrate and it simply wasn`t acceptable!

It's not acceptable and we, the fans, deserve a whole lot more. I'm not going to cry a river about it any time soon though, like I said to fcb, whilst i'm interested in the opinion of Fergie, Phelan and some of our players it's not the end of the world if I don't. How many times when we've lost has the excuse given been reasonably valid? 9 out of 10 times, as many opposition fans will point out, the excuse is bias and far from level-headed, to blame the ref at Chelsea was only half the story for example, they forgot to mention we got outplayed. Defeat is a hard pill to swallow but let's not linger in self-pity as well. Heads up and bring on the next game.

Was very surprised with Giggs not being allowed to speak after achieving such a remarkable milestone. A siege mentality can work, but if you lose the fans support, you are on to a loser.

It's not so much whether your fans care about it or not, but rather the image it casts of an incredibly petulant and graceless manager walking off in a huff rather than at least trying to be magnanimous in defeat. Taggart doesn't do the image of united any favours, and incidents like this only serve to confirm what most of us know - that you have no class. Fortunately for you, neither Sky nor Talkspurt will dare to complain to the FA about this so you will, as per usual, get away scot free.

Its my major flaw with the likes of Wenger and Ferguson - Both fantastic managers - Ferguson especially has to go down as the all time great. Yet has no class when in defeat - Its very rare that you lose a game but whenever you do lose theres always a tirade against the referee and he's almost never humble in defeat. Maybe its part & parcel of being such a top manager these days, but he really is a bitter old man
