United - Gotze Interest?

United - Gotze Interest?

Would Sir Alex Ferguson really shell out something akin to £20 million for a teenager?

Well if you believe the tabloid press it looks as if he is contemplating doing exactly that.

The red-top hacks have us linked, very closely, with a move for the eighteen year old Borussia Dortmund star, Mario Gotze.

Gotze, although only eighteen, has established himself as a regular in the Dortmund first team and the red-top hacks perceive this lad as being a natural replacement for the ageing Paul Scholes.

It could well be an interesting rumour to follow!

We've seen 18 mil splashed out for the likes of Anderson, Nani and Ronaldo so if Fergie really felt he will be a huge talent I wouldn't put it past him.

We spent/wasted 20 million on Carrick. If Fergie feels that the lad has the ability to merit such a high fee he will shell out for him, the only problem really is can Fergie persuade the trolls, sorry Glazers to splash out.

In all fairness to Carrick kanchelskis he cost 14 mil and really helped with the push for the 3 Premier League titles, Champions League and runners up and the Carling Cups. He was more than capable of distributing long balls and short passes as well as offering a good defensive game by breaking up play and intercepting the ball. It's a shame though that he just hasn't been the same player since that defeat to Barcelona.

In all fairness, the spuds fans are the ones who are happy now and rightfully so, what is Carrick an att mid, a def mid, a ball winner, playmaker, what is he, look at it this way how does Capello rate him, would he drop gerrard, lampard, milner, or the like to accomodate Carrick? No, Does our midfield look stronger with him in it? No. He helped us win 3 league titles, maybe but only as a small cog in a big machine, he's good at passing the ball, ffs, he's more likely to pass the ball backwards nowadays, he breaks up play do you really think he can read a game that well plus what modern midfielder cannot pass the ball well, he is not good defensively, to me he just seems too stagnant on the pitch, look at Fletcher and Anderson now, look at the improvements made to their game, if Hargreaves was injury free would Carrick still be at the club? Who would take him if we let him go? Maybe the Barca game has destroyed him, but why then is he still here if he ain't the same player? We could of gotten Ozil for 12 million Van der Vaart for 10, how many of our rivals would have him in their team? Carrick is a bit like Gibson not great at defending not great at attacking, just decent-ish at both, if you play one of them in the centre the other cm has to do so much more. I suspect he was signed to play similar to Scholes but the experiment has failed hence the reason we have 2 36 year olds dictating our play form midfield. Sorry for the incoherent rant I'm hungover.

kanchelski don't get me wrong I couldn't care if Carrick left tomorrow he has been absolute 5hit and just hasn't shown any desire when played to earn a position on the bench let alone on the field. I was just stating for the price tage we've got alot more from him than say 24 mil for Milner, 18 mil for Zhirkov or 20 mil for Aquilani which is arguably not a 'waste', or as much of a waste (just thought that was a bit harsh on Carrick seeing as he has been so successful). Carrick is just a general CM with no specialities other then perhaps reading and intercepting opponents play, however football now demands players in midfield to specialise in either defending or attacking and if you're a box-to-box midfielder you have to be a bloody good one to play for a big side, Carrick, like you said, lacks both. Carrick's general average ability is useful to have as a back up however so thats why he still wears a United kit. I think the reason Ferige didn't get an Ozil or a Van Der Vaart isn't because value for money but moreso he wants to see if Anderson or Cleverley can live up to expectations and take the role, either that or he is oblivious to the lack of attacking ability in the midfield.
