United - Smalling`s Ready

With Rio Ferdinand sidelined with injury, the scene is set for young Chris Smalling to partner Nemanja Vidic at the heart of our defence in the Manchester derby.

Smalling, with a derby appearance in mind, has given a revealing interview to the media about life at Old Trafford and Manchester in general, remarking,

"The more games I play the more I feel like I belong here."

"I feel good at the moment. I only came here in the summer and I wasn`t at Fulham too long, so I`ve surprised myself how settled I have become."

"Manchester is quite different to London. It`s a bit more chilled out up here and I only live five minutes from the training ground, so everything is nice and easy."

"A lot of my family come up quite often too, so on a personal level I feel really at ease."

"But it is a big step for me. I`m still improving but I`m trying to learn from all those experiences and kick on."

Here at Vital Manchester United, we`ve no doubt Chris will be up to the task on Saturday.

He is the more logical choice for replacing Ferdinand. Evans is to like-for-like with Vidic whereas Smalling adds that Ferdinand-esque presence to the defense. Good to hear he is feeling confident and hopefully he can handle Tevez as masterfully as Rafael handled Arshavin, Ronaldiinho and Ribery.
