That goal, after a mere fifty seconds released any pent-up pressure and kept the Old Trafford crowd firmly on side. It also ensured Aston Villa couldn`t just sit back for ninety minutes and try to take a 0-0 draw back to Birmingham.
After the game Sir Alex Ferguson spoke about that strike enthusing,
"It was a fantastic piece of vision from Edwin van der Sar and a great strike. He took it lovely, what a hit. Wayne Rooney was fantastic tonight, but they all were."
With the unbeaten run continuing and with Wayne Rooney getting back on the score-sheet, Sir Alex let the media in on a secret, detailing what goal returns he expects, for the season, from Rooney and Berbatov, commenting,
"If we finish with Berbatov scoring 30 and Wayne on 10 - and those are the targets I have in mind - I will be more than happy."
We`d like to add, only if we win the blessed title though!
