United - That Crucial Early Goal
Considering the previous five games between the two clubs had been really tight affairs, the result today was something of a surprise.
Mind you it has to be said that Birmingham appeared to lack ambition and cohesion after that 96 second opening goal, a goal that Sir Alex Ferguson thought changed the way the afternoon was going to pen out when he chirped afterwards,
'It was a great start. It means the other team have to change their plan immediately. We kept going for their throats and it's a good score-line. Our game in hand is only on paper [at the moment]. We still have to play that game.'
Blackpool away, next Tuesday evening, could see us stretch our lead at the top and put daylight between us and the chasing pack. What a lovely thought.

Early goals tend to make the game harder but we showed real spirit and kept on going at them, something we seem to lack when playing away.
