United - Evra v Lennon!

White Hart Lane is always a foreboding place to visit.

The manner in which Harry Redknapp sends his team out, with Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale playing out wide and stretching defences seems to be a ploy that brings Spurs success.

On Sunday, Bale wasn`t as influential as he has been in previous games and Lennon was given short-shrift by Patrice Evra,

Somewhere down the line, a myth seems to have evolved whereby it`s genuinely thought that Evra is given a rough time by Lennon, something Patrice is quick to have his say about, remarking to the red-top press,

"He didn`t score and he didn`t make an assist. I think I did a good job and I`m happy with my performance."

"People always say Lennon gives me a difficult game but I think they`ve only watched the Carling Cup Final from 2009."

"If you watch the games since then I don`t think he has beaten me once."

Anyone else reckon Lennon is over-rated?

Myth? Are you joking? Even in this game (Evra's best ever performance against Lennon) you could still see he was struggling. Even my Arsenal supporting mates are aware of the fact that Evra, regarded amongst my group of friends as one of the best left backs in the world, always struggles against Lennon... Not knocking Evra, or hyping Lennon but it's just the way it is. You can see by how far he sits off Lennon that he's aware himself of the rough ride he usually gets. Not intended to start a row... just surprised you see it as a myth that's all. Ps, please don't let City or Arse win the league!!!

No he just needs working on aspects on his game, but he did beat Evra on a number of ocassions. Reds look solid & likely to bag the premier league.

A man utd mate of mine was bemoaning the fact that spurs had a 12th man in the shape of Mr Dean....bloody cheek. Lennon would walk into your team by the way.

Spurs had a 12th man?hahahahaha.Tell us another one, that guy obviously didn't watch the game!

if we had a 12th man in mike dean he was doing a terrible job of it cos i seem to remember vidic who had an amazing game by the way trying to swap shirts with van der vaart in the box before the final whistle. also it wasnt evra that took care of lennon, it was evra and vidic. evra picked up a yellow card as well for bringing down lennon who got past him a few times but vidic was always there covering as was rio when bale was getting past rafael and carrick dropping into center defence when either of the centre backs had to go out and double up on our wingers. you played us very well but dont kid yourselfs, 1 on 1 lennon and bale will eat any full back alive

Like there's bogey teams there's bogey players, for Evra its Lennon. However if a full back struggles with pace you quitely simply double up on 'em e.g. the way Vidic masterfully done. Matt I respect your teams midfield is the 2nd best (in my opinion atleast) but to insinuate that Lennon is better than Valencia and Nani is insulting to say the least. I thought in the 2 games this season Rafael has done superbly against Bale and kept him completely quite in the first game, though beaten a few times in the second game he still applied the pressure needed (something many fullbacks fail to do) to make him deliver below par (for his level) crosses. Evra in the last 2 seasons hasn't let Lennon even get an assist let alone a sniff at goal so in fairness he's hardly wrong.

TheFamousNo7 - "Evra in the last 2 seasons hasn't let Lennon even get an assist let alone a sniff at goal" in answer to that, I give you...Peter Crouch ;)
Phartman87
Lennon has pace, Lennon has skill, but no end product - full stop!
merlin
Crouch, the Emile Heskey of Tottenham :P
TheFamousNo7
thats an insult to Heskey TF7!!!!

Well i'd rather have Lennon than Valencia. Both have improved on their end product though. Nani is better but hes a complete cheating little git so Lennon on that front aswell. Btw i thought Lennon had the better of Evra easy on Sunday, but struggled to get past the man-mountain that is Vidic
HuddersfieldYiddo
See Huddersfield thats where i'm going to have to disagree with you. Firstly, Valencia is very good at tracking back and offering the defensive game whilst also having one of the best crosses in the league, something Lennon really lacks whilst still possessing increble pace. To say Nani is a better player but you wouldn't have him because he cheats (the irony after your players crumbled over anything when we played you) is idiotic, by that logic you wouldn't have Ronaldo over Lennon because he cheats also?
