'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Rio`s First!

One of those free pull-outs that give an insight into the latest round of football fixtures, has provided us with a startling fact.

It transpires that when Jerome Thomas surged into the United box and was caught by Rio Ferdinand for Peter Odemwingie to miss, horribly, a spot kick that would have given West Brom a 2-1 lead, it was Rio`s first foul since last April.

Now we know Rio has missed a substantial part of last year due to the injury picked up whilst in the England 2010 World Cup camp but it still remains a wonderful achievement and one that Rio appears to have been aware of when he remarked,

"You try to nick the ball off people and stay clean. As soon as I caught Thomas, I was thinking 'Oh no - first foul!"

Like we said, a startling statistic for a defender!
