After scoring his first goal, from open play since March 2010, Wayne Rooney was the subject of some adulation from his team mates, following our second away win of the season.
Rooney, who was injured in a challenge involving Chris Brunt, left the pitch injured but came back on to bolster the ranks after realising United were down to ten-men.
Rooney wasn`t able to anything other than hack the ball to safety but his perseverance was universally acknowledged by his team mates.
First up, Patrice Evra, who commented,
"I am very glad for Wayne. He deserved to score. He is working hard every day in training. He showed his character to stay on the pitch. It was good for Manchester United."
Second up, the scorer of the winning goal, Javier Hernandez, who explained,
"We know the courage Wayne has."
"He always tries best for his team."
And as for the villain of the peace, a certain Chris Brunt, he was in apologetic mood when he remarked to the media,
"It was a professional foul I suppose."
"It was a naughty one, I did catch him."
"I don`t want to see anyone injured so I am glad he came back on."
"He is a top player and of course I apologised. He seemed alright."
"I was just hoping he didn`t get me back."
At the time of writing, we have no news as to whether the incident will result in an injury lay-off for Rooney!
