United - Sir Alex Acknowledges His Great Keepers!

United - Sir Alex Acknowledges His Great Keepers!

Ahead of our clash with Sunderland, on Boxing Day, a clash that could increase our lead over whom we perceive to be our main rivals, Chelsea, to six points, Sir Alex Ferguson has been mulling over a few goalkeeping thoughts.

Sir Alex is only too aware that Edwin Van der Sar is coming to the end of his career and that this could be his last season.

Naturally, thinking back, Sir Alex is only too aware of the problems he ha din filling the great Peter Schmeichel`s gloves and acknowledges that he made an error in not signing Van der Sar sooner than he did, but reflecting he`s proud to admit to have had two great keepers during his reign, remarking,

"Both Edwin and Peter have been magnificent goalkeepers and I have been lucky to have them both."

"I should have signed Van der Sar after Schmeichel. I made a mistake."

And as for it being Edwin`s last season, a curt comment or two, implying,

"I think we are planning for this possibly to be his last season."

"To be playing at our level at 40 is amazing. You can only do it if you`ve that structure and mind. To be bale to programme himself and train the way he does is phenomenal. He`s an outstanding man."

But with Anders Lindegaard joining United on January 4th, Sir Alex believes he has the eventuality covered remarking,

"Anders is one of the brightest young keepers in the game. The challenge at Manchester United is always to look to the future and in Anders, we have signed a goalkeeper of great presence and even more promise."

It`ll certainly be interesting to see how many times the current Danish international dons the green jersey this season!
