United - Open Play Drought!

United - Open Play Drought!

On occasions last night Wayne Rooney was playing with a broad smile on his face.

Slowly but surely Wayne is edging back towards the form he showed last season, although he`d probably be the first to admit that he could do with a confidence boost from the odd goal or two.

Rooney has still not scored from open play this season although Sir Alex Ferguson doesn`t appear too fazed by that fact, commenting after the fixture last night,

"Wayne did very well again tonight. His distribution, the way he led the line, his penetration. He was outstanding and he`s getting there quickly."

And as for the man himself, Wayne had this to say about his form and the performance last night,

"I feel good fitness-wise. I do need to get my sharpness back around the box but overall I am happy with my performance."

"We knew what we had to do and that was to get the result to make sure we finished top."

"In the second half we got a goal and in the last ten minutes they were pushing. Now we feel we can beat anybody."

I wouldn`t quite say that but things are looking better than they did a few weeks ago!

Don't confuse a smile for the rictus grin of an idiot.

As long as he helps with the scoring of goals and we come out with wins then I don't care how long his drought is. At the end of the day its the result thats most important.
