'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - A Crucial Period!

Sitting proudly on top of the table, we could very well do with getting a result at Bloomfield Road this Saturday.

The reason being that our next two fixtures are both titanic with United welcoming Arsenal and then visiting Chelsea. Two games in the space of six days that could have serious implications as to where the destiny of the Premier League title lies.

It`s a point that Sir Alex Ferguson has picked up on as he prepares for the trip to the coast, Speaking about those two crucial fixtures, this is what our boss had to say,

"You always want to win those games because I think they`re really significant."

"We`ve managed to claw ourselves into a position two points ahead of Chelsea."

"So the game at Stamford Bridge and Arsenal`s trip to Manchester will certainly be most important."

There are many who`d offer a reasonable debate that it was our failings against Chelsea, last season that cost us when it came to retaining the Premier League title, a point that Sir Alex was quick to remind those, who were in attendance, about, commenting,

"We saw that last season. Some big decisions didn`t go our way in the two matches against Chelsea and they ended up costing us important points."

I`ll not be the one to tell him these things are supposed to even themselves out over the course of a season.

Moving on, Sir Alex seemed almost relieved that the fixture computer had, for a change, been gentle with us over the festive period with the wily Scot explaining,

"Off course, how you do at Christmas depends on who you`ve got to play."

"And more importantly who you have to play in away games. Over the years we always seemed to have had games in the North East but this year it`s a bit more local."

"We`re at home on Boxing Day and just after the New Year - and only have to travel to the Midlands for games with Birmingham and West Brom. So that`s not too bad. But three games in six days is a lot."

It is a lot but with such an expansive squad shouldn`t we be able to cope?
