United - The Opposition`s View!

It`s hard enough facing Manchester United with eleven men, even more so when they`re on a lengthy unbeaten run.

Therefore the Wigan boss, Roberto Martinez must have realised it was a lost cause after he`d seen two of his players dismissed.

After the game, the Wigan boss had this to say about his misfortune,

"If I talk about the referee Martin Atkinson I won`t be able to be honest about him."

"This is one of the toughest places to come in European football and we allowed frustrations over small decisions to boil over. We should have controlled that better."

"I`m going to respect the referee but unfortunately we couldn`t control ourselves and the sending-off`s finished the game for us."

"But last season we lost 5-0 here and it would have been easy to capitulate, I`m pleased we didn`t do that."

"I`m pleased with the way we reacted in adversity; it became a real mental test for us when we were down to nine men.

"We have the quality to cope with injury and suspension and now there will be an opportunity for other players."


Refereeing performances seem to be a contentious issue this season but here at Vital Manchester United we`d like to wish Wigan all the best for the rest of the season, at times, yesterday, they played some great football and could even have opened the scoring!
