'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Doubting His Ability?

With Wayne Rooney back in the fold, there should be healthy competition for striking positions.

In Rooney`s absence it has been Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez who have lead the line.

Both have done well but special accolades should go to Hernadez after the youngster was thrust into the spotlight and done the business.

This morning, in the red-top tabloid press, there lingers a great little article about Javier, in which he speaks about United`s interest and the troubles he had accepting that he was good enough to play for such a mighty club.

Here`s the gist of what he had to say,

"Chief scout Jim Lawlor spoke to me about a year ago."

"He`d been watching me play for Chivas and he told me United were interested, so I was very excited."

"Before that he`d spoken to my father and when my father told me the news I cried because I couldn`t believe it."

"As a kid in Mexico, my dream was to play for the best team in Mexico and then move to Europe."

"But to be told United were interested was unbelievable."

"My whole life has changed. I played a lot of games in Mexico, went to a World Cup and now have this incredible opportunity at United."

"I was not getting many chances in the Chivas first team and I questioned whether I was good enough to make it as a footballer."

"But my family said I needed to be patient."

"When you`re playing it`s about learning to accept the bad times as well as enjoying the good."

And as for the remainder of his debut season in the Premier League,

"The most important thing for all of us is that the team wins - it doesn`t matter who scores the goals.

"Of course, I want to play as much as possible and to help the team win. If I score goals on the way that`s a bonus."

With an attitude like that this young man will, n doubt, go far!
