United - Lightweight Rooney!

No! Not in contribution but in weight, although some may try and argue differently!

Back in training at Carrington, the media are reporting that Wayne has returned from his sortie, to the USA, half a stone lighter, prompting several to offer their thoughts on his integration back into the fold.

First up, as the press is so frequently happy to quote, the source close to the club who remarks,

"It`s the talk of the place how hard Wayne was worked out there."

"He was far from being overweight but he is now nicely tuned up again after the extended lay-off and injury problems."

"The gaffer and his staff knew exactly what they were doing and now they are expecting it to pay rich rewards."

The last remark obviously meant to be a jab in the eye for all those critics who questioned the wisdom of sending Wayne across the pond.

But, Sir Alex, hoping that he`s now got back the free-scoring Rooney that propelled United to the verge of the Premier League title, also seems pretty chuffed with how things have turned out, chipping in,

"Wayne`s had a good week, he`s trained very hard and we`ve achieved what we wanted to achieve."

It remains to be seen if Rooney will start against Wigan, this weekend, but the indications are and after having missed 13 out of the 20 games we`ve played this season, some might suggest he`s got some catching up to do to justify that enormously grotesque salary!
