United - City Booze Ban!

Emotions are sure to be running high this Wednesday in the local derby!

Circumstances have contrived, for once, to pair the two clubs in a derby fixture when both have serious title ambitions and both clubs know that a win is imperative.

Therefore, following some unsavoury incidents that took place when the two sides met last season, in the Carling Cup, steps have been taken to ensure that the night doesn`t descend into a booze fuelled orgy of violence.

As a precautionary step, the local constabulary has banned alcohol consumption for a two mile radius around Eastlands with a local Superintendent, Jim Ligget, remarking about what lies ahead,

"I don`t think we have had a derby in recent years with both teams almost neck and neck."

"It`s a high profile match but one we are experienced in dealing with."


And tracking back to last season`s trouble, adds

"Anything we learned from those games was put into our planning for future matches."

"The derby match creates a good atmosphere and we want fans to enjoy what it is - a great occasion in the football calendar."

"When a minority of people misbehave or come to games with the sole intention of causing trouble, it spoils it for everyone."


It certainly does, let`s hope Wednesday night is remembered for what happens on the pitch rather than off it!
