'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Ferguson on the Result!

At half time I was beginning to despair, beginning to think that this game had 0-0 written all over it, especially after that lack-lustre first forty-five minutes.

Instead a three goal second half burst meant that the result gave us our biggest away win, in the Champions League, for two years.

Although the two injuries picked up, Nani and Fletcher, slightly tainted the evening, Sir Alex Ferguson was pretty upbeat in his post match interview, talking, firstly, about the result, remarking,

"The important thing, away from home, is to control the game. The first goal is always important and it puts us in the driving seat."

And, secondly but more importantly in the overall grand scheme of things, the tightening up of our defence, commenting,

"The early part of the season cost us points. We gave silly goals away but gradually we have eradicated them."

"The return of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic together has helped because they are a good twosome. It`s a more stable situation and we are not as fragile."

"I think we are now returning to some decent form."

Although it should be pointed out that Bursaspor were not the sternest of tests and deprived of the aforementioned Rio Ferdinand, his understudy Chris Smalling, looked well at ease!
