United - Carrick on Turkey Trip!

Last season wasn`t one of his better ones, but this season the midfielder has his eyes on re-establishing himself as a regular in the starting eleven

With the ageing duo of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes heading for retirement and Manchester United being linked with a plethora of midfield talent by the tabloid press, in recent weeks, Carrick knows this could be a defining year in his United career.

Tonight, with Gibson and Anderson both missing courtesy of a virus that has seen them remain back in Manchester, Carrick is likely to start.

Ahead of the game, Carrick has spoken about the tie, commenting,

"This is a long journey, it`s a different atmosphere and we`ll play against players we don`t see week in, week out. That brings its own challenges."

Plenty of time to contemplate what sort of performance is needed some cynics might say!
