With the Turkish side, Bursaspor, in town tonight, United will be looking to improve their prospects of securing qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
So far our defensive record in the two games played so far has been impeccable with clean sheets being kept in both, a far cry from our very-dodgy Premier League record whereby we`ve conceded far too many goals, with several of them being of a sloppy nature.
On the eve of the game Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken about the defensive predicament we find ourselves in, commenting about several subjects including the perceived reason why and also why, last time out, the response to conceding those two goals against West Bromwich Albion was so poor, remarking
"The reason for the lack of response was not to do with the game; it was to do with previous matches where we threw points away."
"We have to stand up and accept the criticism and say we aren`t happy with it (conceding so many goals)."
"With the players, experience and ability we have in the back four - it shouldn`t be happening. Conceding so many goals has an impact; a conscious part comes into it."
"The players think 'we`re going to have to face the gaffer again` because it is inexplicable"
It`s been one of those seasons so far but fortunately it`s happening early on in the season."
"We can ill-afford any mistakes at any time, because when Manchester United play games, the expectations are such that we have to win."
"We don`t have a problem with that. Losing a game is always a challenge at this club."
"It doesn`t matter when it comes but the key is responding in the right way."
At the moment it`s not so much losing that is the problem but more of chucking away points by drawing.
But Sir Alex believes qualification for the Champions League knockout stages will be achieved, commenting,
"With our home record we can put it to bed."
To be sure though, we need to take six points from our two remaining home games starting tonight especially with Valencia to come still!
