'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Don`t Panic Lads!

As we head to the international break, we`re left to contemplate the fact that two of our rivals in the race for the Premier League title have stolen a march on us.

Our fiercest rivals for the title, Chelsea, have a handy lead (and a far superior goal difference) whilst that lot from across the city, the oil-soaked-cash-laden Manchester City, are also sitting above us for the first time in many a year.

There`s certainly no need to panic, after all everyone accepts that the title is a marathon and not a sprint but there`s no denying that it is our away form that has seen us drift off the pace.

Points lost at Fulham, Everton and Sunderland might well become points we rue come next May. It`s a fact not lost on our Irish defender John O`Shea, who had this to say on our situation,

"The away form has been disappointing but I can see that turning around very soon because of the quality and experience we have."

"We won`t know whether these draws are a concern until the end of the season."

"But it has always been a case that if we draw two or three games it is a crisis, people say the empire is crumbling. We are used to that. It is about proving the critics wrong."

"You do take comfort from the fact we haven`t lost, but we were ahead at Fulham and Everton and should have killed those games off.

Although O`Shea does offer some crumbs of comfort those who might be unnecessarily worried, further commenting,

"But we are more than capable of going on a long unbeaten run and turning draws into wins."

Exactly! Are we not renowned for our unbeaten runs that see us catch, fend and hold off all others as the season approaches a climax?

I would hate it if the 'what if' and 'if only' thoughts come about at the end of the season again.
