United - Vidic`s Defensive Concerns!

Wednesday evening could be an uncomfortable affair!

Our Champions League Group has thrown up a fixture that is likely to be a real test, in fact I`d describe it as the hardest fixture we`ll play in this group when we travel to Spain to take on Valencia.

Having drawn the opening group game, against Glasgow Rangers, United need to take something from our Spanish opponents but our defending, in recent weeks, especially away from home, leaves a lot to be desired.

It`s a point our new captain, Nemanja Vidic, picked up on as he spoke to the press ahead of the fixture, explaining,

"We have to be much better in Spain than we were at Bolton."

"Valencia are in a decent run of form and won their first match 4-0."

"They are also top of La Liga and that shows how well they are playing - whereas the last few games we have played away have been very disappointing."

"It is a big concern conceding so many away goals. We know over the last few years we haven`t given many away."

"We have always looked strong and haven`t given teams so many chances."

"But in the last three away games we haven`t kept a clean sheet. We have lost too many goals and have to stop that."

"This is not the true Manchester United. It does have to be sorted quickly."

"In the last three games we have conceded the type of goals from set-pieces that we haven`t conceded in the last four years."

They are, indeed, worrying times but perhaps the re-introduction of Rio Ferdinand, alongside Nemanja Vidic, could be the solution to this particular problem!

Depends whether Ferdinand has got over his dip of form also.

he's not been top notch for quite awhile in my opinion!
