United - Phelan on Fergie Absence!

Absent from Glandford Park last night, it was left to Sir Alex Ferguson`s right hand man, Mike Phelan to address the media.

Naturally, with Sir Alex Ferguson having chosen to go on a scouting mission to Spain, the press were quick to chuck in the old disrespectful jibe.

Phelan though was quick to dismiss that particular allegation and also comment on why Sir Alex had flown off to Spain, remarking,

"The managers` choice was the right one. Why is it disrespectful?"

"It was important after the Rangers game that we were properly prepared and Valencia had started the season very well."

A valid point considering that the Rangers game saw us drop two Champions League group-stage points we thought would be ours!

Phelan is no mug- but I can understand why people might see it as disrespectful to be honest. This is the first game Ferguson has missed in 24 years down to solely work related resons, and surel nobody's saying that they've never had an important Champions League game coming up? So why is it the first time if it's a rule that's utterly sensible and thus always aplied? And frankly- it's not as if Manchester United don't have scouts coming out of every pore anyway. It all stinks to me to be honest. Mmmmm......

Don't see why people are making a big deal about it, its not like it affects them in anyway so why do they care? Utter rubbish that has been blown out of proportion.
