United - Rangers Boss Verdict!

Billed as a clash between the sorcerer and his apprentice, I`m not totally sure which of the two managers filled which role last night, especially as there can`t be much, age-wise, between the two.

However, as the post match clean-up began and the two sides made their way home I reckon it was Walter Smith that had the broadest smile of the two.

Walter had brought his side to Old Trafford, he`d worked out a game plan, his die had stuck to it perfectly and his side had a much valued point to take back to Ibrox from the opening game of the group stages.

It may not have been pretty but it certainly was most effective!

After the game, and before heading back to Glasgow, Walter gave an interesting post match interview commenting on several intriguing items when he remarked,

"Everyone seems concerned with United`s team tonight but I wish I had that problem. Any of their players out there would get into 80 per cent of the other Premier League teams."

"It is always easy to defend something than to create something but that is the only choice left to us now."

"UEFA have allowed this situation to develop but small punchers cannot compete."

"We have virtually no chance of winning the Champions League."

A very honest assessment but with the current financial incentives on offer from UEFA, Walter knows full well that even a 0-0 draw puts a few thousand, in this case 550,000 Euros, in the troubled Ibrox bank account, so can you really blame him for going all defensive!
