After the disappointment of the loss of two late goals at Goodison Park and the subsequent loss of two points, we`re more than thankful that we have a chance to get back to winning ways in midweek.
Our Champions League assault starts with a visit from Glasgow Rangers, the Scottish Champions, in what promises to be a feisty affair.
It`s probably fair to say that Rangers are not the force they once were and their financial situation has seen a mass exodus of players this summer, but Walter Smith will ensure his side arrives at Old Trafford with a game-plan and the wily old campaigner will be keen to put one over on his old friend, Sir Alex Ferguson.
Yesterday (Sunday), we ran a short article on how James Beattie was looking to score at Old Trafford, having never done so whilst with an English club, however, scoring is something his strike partner, Kenny Miller, has done at Old Trafford and the much traveled Scottish striker has spoken about the challenge that faces his side ahead of the tie, remarking to the media,
"I scored against United the year I played in the Premier League with Wolves - it was probably the highlight of my time at the club."
"We`re going to have to carry a lot of luck if we`re going to get a result like Wolves that day. We can`t carry any passengers or we`re going to be punished."
Kenny`s comments come a day after the veteran defender, David Weir, suggested that Rangers were coming to Old Trafford to do a Lichtenstein, Weir is obviously referring to the stoic performance the minnows recently put up against a Scotland side with him in last week.
However, don`t be fooled by these comments, it we`re not fully focused we could come a cropper, Rangers, despite entering the game having only beaten Hamilton late on last time out, will be up for this one and keen to ruffle our feathers.
