United - Welbeck in Buoyant Mood!

Just because he`s been sent to Sunderland for the season isn`t a reason to completely ignore Danny Welbeck.

As avid United followers we`ll be keen to see how the young sharp-shooter performs up at the Stadium of Light and also how he fares whilst wearing the England U21 shirt.

Yesterday we reported on how Danny had been instrumental in getting England into the next stages of the U21 European Championships.

What we did do though however, was fail to do our homework correctly on the make-up of the competition by wrongly assuming that England were already in the finals next summer, neglecting to notice that a play-off competition has to be navigated first. For that we apologise.

But, things in the U21 squad continue to look rosy and on the back of the fine 3-0 win over Lithuania, Welbeck has enthused about the talent in the side and also the keenness to emulate those who have taken the step-up from U21 level to the full national side, explaining.

"We`ve got so much talent in this team."

"I`m confident we`ve a great chance of winning the Euro`s if we can get through the play-offs."

"Seeing some of the lads from the last U21 side step up into the full squad gives us inspiration."

"Looking around this side England`s future is in good hands."


Just what we needed to hear with several of the current full squad approaching the twilight of their careers, on the international stage.

Got a feeling our future England stars will be better than our current crop. Still can't see any trophies being won though.
