'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gerrard on Rooney

From Vital England:

Steven Gerrard reflects on England's win in Switzerland, highlighting the good and the sometimes bad - giving special praise to Wayne Rooney who was instrumental in the win.

Wayne Rooney's private life, and the allegations about this, had dominated the build-up to England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland - although the Man United man let his football do the talking on Tuesday as his performance helped England to a 3-1 win in Basle.

England captain Steven Gerrard, as he told sky sports, praised Rooney's contribution to the win: 'I think the goal was great for Wayne. All the talk in the build-up was about Wayne, so it was nice for him to get the goal.

'Tonight again he was terrific, like he was on Friday. I am sure he will be great for us during qualification.'
