United - U21`s - Welbeck`s Night

Sent to Sunderland to further his football education, Danny Welbeck had a night to remember playing for the U21`s last night.

Stuart Pearce and his side entered the game against Lithuania knowing that the best they could muster in their group was second place. But, a decent result would clinch them one of the four automatic places up for grabs for the best second place teams.

Whether the expectations levels affected the youngsters or not remains debatable but once Danny had netted in the 61st minute, the U21 side looked a different unit being superbly prompted by Jack Wilshere (Arsenal) and when Danny netted a third for England and his second of the night, in the 90th minute, the job had been done. England had qualified for the finals next summer.

A mention should also be given to Tom Cleverley and Chris Smalling who also both played their parts in ensuring that the future does look bright for England`s youngsters next summer!
