The tabloid press doesn`t make good reading for all Rooney fans at the moment.
The sordid revelations / accusations relating to his private life have done nothing but tarnish his reputation and as the country focuses on the second of the two important European Qualifying fixtures, against Switzerland, the nation is left pondering whether Rooney will be in a fit enough state of mind to play.
Naturally, that assessment will come down to the result of a chat between our star striker and Fabio Capello with the manager, obviously, having the final say.
If it is deemed that come Tuesday evening Rooney isn`t deemed fit enough, mentally, to take to the pitch in Basel, then it will, football wise, a shame with the striker, post the accusations becoming public knowledge, showing just how important to the England cause he is with those four assists on Friday evening, a fact recognized by his international comrade, James Milner, who is quoted in the tabloid press as having remarked,
"You saw on Friday what a player Wayne is and, hopefully, he can go out and get a hat-trick on Tuesday."
"He had a fantastic season last year, scoring a lot of goals and playing well and I thought he was brilliant on Friday."
"He brought players into the game, made a lot of goals and showed how unselfish he is as well."
Kind of ironic that Milner`s last sentence contains the word unselfish don`t you think, considering the circumstances?
