United - Smalling and Cleverley Star!

United - Smalling and Cleverley Star!

Although a lot of eyes were cast towards Wembley Stadium and England`s recuperation after a very poor World Cup, some United youngsters were doing their best to improve the U21`s chances of reaching the latter stages of their competition next season.

In defence Chris Smalling, playing alongside Phil Jones (Blackburn) produced a masterful display to keep the Portuguese attack quite with several hacks implying his style was very similar to a young Rio Ferdinand.

A little further forward was Tom Cleverley who played a vital part in setting up the only goal of the game when his superb through ball was excellently finished by Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea).

On the oppositions side was our recent signing Bebe who had a very quiet game being expertly marshaled by Smalling and Jones. Here`s hoping the youngsters can keep the momentum going to secure a place in the finals of this tournament when they face Lithuania next Tuesday!

I heard the entire portugal team played quite badly. Congrats to Cleveley and Smalling though hopefully they'll do it for the senior England team in a few years time.
