United - Scholes Nearly Packed It In!

United - Scholes Nearly Packed It In!

Paul Scholes has made a remarkable start to the season, whenever he`s played he`s invariably been named as the man-of-the-match.

Scholes has been pulling those midfield strings like a maestro and rolling back the years with some fine performances, but it could have been all so different.

Apparently, Scholes came real close to calling it a day last Christmas and retiring from football.

In remarks printed in the tabloids this morning Scholes is quoted as saying,

"At Christmas last year, I did not think I`d be playing this season. I wasn`t playing well enough."

"The season before last I had an injury for three months and then from Christmas onwards, my form wasn`t brilliant. Leading up to Christmas last year it still wasn`t great."

"I set myself high standards. I want to feel as though I`m contributing to the team. If I am not doing that, what is the point of being here?"

Thankfully, it seems that Sir Alex Ferguson had a word and now we`re reaping the rewards.
