Warning From Sir Bobby Charlton

Warning From Sir Bobby Charlton

United legend Sir Bobby Charlton has told Sven not to take any risks with Wayne Rooney.

Rooney's broken metatarsal has fully healed and England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson announced today that the Manchester United striker will play as soon as he is match-fit.

Charlton: 'All I'm bothered about is the lad himself. I want him to play for England and do really well, but not by taking risks.

'I don't think Wayne is the person to ask (about his match readiness), you would have to ask the medical staff.

'If I know Wayne Rooney, he wants it desperately. I don't think it is a decision he should make. I think that's a medical decision.

'I'll leave it to medical advice and I'll accept that.

'Manchester United want him to play well for England.'

I totally agree. Wayne or sven should not have the final say it should be up to the medics. He is gonna say he's ready regardless. I am in the medical profession myself and at this level of football they need to be absolutely certain. It could end up messy!
