United - The Rangers Conundrum!

United - The Rangers Conundrum!

The draw for the Champions League group stages has certainly stoke dup some interest especially with the placing of the Scottish giants, Glasgow Rangers in our group.

Firstly, the draw has given Sir Alex Ferguson the chance to renew his acquaintance with his old friend, Walter Smith, with Sir Alex joking,

"Walter`s already been on about tickets! We`re both really looking forward to it."

And as for Walter, he had this to say about being drawn against his old friend,

"It`s a great draw. To be up against Sir Alex in my last season in charge is something I`ll relish."

However, for many, the name of Glasgow Rangers brings back memories of when the Scottish side last played in Manchester as participants in the 2008 UEFA Cup Final.

That night saw some scenes that we`d not witnessed for many a year as something approaching 150,000 supporters, most without tickets, lay siege to the city sparking trouble that shocked the nation, especially scenes of a policeman being attacked.

Hopefully, this time around, the tie will be played in a similar fashion to that of 2003 and any talk of a supporter ban being imposed with United not being allowed to go to Ibrox and Rangers being prevented from attending the fixture at Old Trafford has been dismissed with some sensible talk coming from David Gill, who has remarked,

"I don`t think it is anything we need to worry about. Clearly we have to work with the authorities and Rangers."

"But they will not be bringing the number of fans who came to the UEFA Cup Final.

Let`s hope he`s correct!
