Will wonders never cease? Arsene Wenger with praise directed at Manchester United? Well, nearly anyway! The Arsenal boss has added to the chorus of praise for Roy Keane following his departure yesterday.
Wenger paid tribute to Keane in an interview with Sky Sports News: 'He was a great player, a massive player. I didn't always agree with his commitment, sometimes he went overboard, but as a quality player, as influence on the side, as a brain on the pitch he was massive. He was very, very influential in the success of Manchester United.'
Although he does say Keane's best days are behind him, I guess that is no slight, all players have a peak and like us all, age brings about a decline - or is that just me!?!
'He is not that anymore, he was the first to recognise that but still he was a good player. No central midfield player in the world is at 34 what he was at 24, 26 or 28. That is life and he knew that, but he is still a top Premier League player. It did take me a bit by surprise, nobody expected it and I don't know why it happened.'
Wenger has ruled Arsenal out of the race for his signature though saying, when asked if he would sign Keane: 'Not at the moment, we are not after a player like Roy Keane and we are not after buying players at the moment.'
