United Lose Out in Ozil Race?

One that got away or one that might never have suited Premier League football?

I guess we`ll never know now that news is breaking that the Werder Bremen midfield ace Mesut Ozil is signing for Barcelona.

Several European news agencies are reporting that the player who Sir Alex Ferguson was casting a watchful eye over at Craven Cottage on Saturday is to join the Catalan side I a deal that will see a transfer fee of just over £8 million paid.

Perhaps Barcelona was always going to be his destination after remarks, attributed to Ozil, were printed in our own media recently,

"It`s my dream to play for them."

One that got away and at a decent price we think!

Ozil is a fantastic player and I'd love it if we were able to snap him up but I'd honestly like to see more of Cleverley.

A good player and at that price might've been worth the risk, however, Barcelona in my opinion are making a very stupid move assuming the rumour is true. They've got some serious money issues and aren't producing enough to cover it, also how are they suppose to convince Fabregas that their is a space for him there? Then if Fabregas does go what happens to Ozil? Who do you play when you've got Xavi, Iniesta, Keita, Busquets, Ozil and then possibly Fabregas in midfield? They're buying so many attacking players and becoming so attack-focused which isn't good for a team. I'm assuming Fabregas will end up at Barca sooner or later.

Barca will end up using him in any deal when they are trying to buy Fabregas.
khoder
Were you ever genuinely interested in signing Ozil or was he just a "red herring"?
fifthcolumnblue
Didn't think of that khoder, quite a good point and makes some sense.
TheFamousNo7
dont want ozil, we dont need ozil, hopefully barcelona signs him as werder clams he is going this week. no manutd fan wanted ozil before world cup and only because he does well at a poor competition fans want him. cleverley is better and i want tom to get his chance as he deserves it. fergie was watching fulham not ozil this past weekend and ozil is not good enough for our club. come on barca, sign him up so these non-stories and rubbish will end. cleverley annd gibbo will replace scholesy, not ozil.
Fergie is GOD.
yep, Fergie skipped the pre-match training session to watch Fulham 13 days before the fixture? absolutely rubbish.
Leonax
did we really have a player profile of him up on the official site today?
Red Boy
Dont say that Red Boy you might get me built up about it.
TheFamousNo7
Remember their excuse for signing him was "so other teams wont get him" which is full of ****.You sign a player out of necessity not to stop other teams from getting him
Chelsea24/7
we have a player profile build up for every one mentioned in our possible transfers section. There are player profiles of fabiano, khedira even aguero. So no need to get excited abt it. Its just a system generated page which a technical fault
